The first time I came to Korea.
I didn't even dare to eat most of the Korean food.
Because first, I have no idea how to communicate in Korean.
Second, I have this active conscious thing of mine whether to eat this or not as a Muslim we have to be cautious what to eat.
When I was in Seoul, I always bought junk food and went to the Itaewon ( a place where we can get halal food) to buy some ingredients and chicken. That was my routine for the first, second week living in Seoul plus i spend a lot of money to buy them. Halal food/ingredients are quite expensive here in Korea.
Instead of spending my money to buy all this ingredients and move back and forth to the minimart shop, I decided to have a try with Korean food. So my friend, Brenda (she came with me to Korea and we were living on the same floor back in Seoul) she brought me to the small Korean restaurant. Before I eat anything, she will help me to check out the food whether there were ham/bacon. She told me all the food I can eat. (I really missed those times).
She introduced all this food (see below) to me.
Keiran Jjim (계란 찜)
This is Korean Steamed Egg pot.
In a restaurant they will served this while it is hot and the egg is so fluffy!
I love the taste of this, though it is a bit salty because I guess they used salted shrimp sauce.
You can try to cook this in the microwave too.
Twaenjang Jigae (된장 찌개)
I always order this whenever I am craving to eat Korean food.
They put small clams, tofu, onion, dried anchovies and vege that similar to cucumber maybe it is zucchini.
The taste is salty too but it is nice to eat in cold weather.
I even bought the Korean bean curd paste, it is quite cheap and easy to make.
I just put the paste as much as i can into the boiling water, and i put all the ingredients and just wait for them to be cooked. and Wallaaa!
You can make it too as long as you have the korean bean curd paste.
When I told my friend that this is my favourite food, she was quite surprised that I liked it.
She told me, foreigners dont really like the taste of this twaenjjang.
Oh well, every foreigners have different tongue. hehe
Bibimbap ( 비빔밥)
Andddd this is also my favourite. Bibimbap (Mixed rice with vegetables) ! I prefer bibimbap with the claypot. Because it taste much better when it is hot though it is expensive than the normal bibimbap. It is just only variety vegetables and eggs plus the hot pepper taste, sesame oil, seaweed. Some restaurant will give meat too with the bibimbap so if you dont want to eat with the meat, let them know. (Of course for me, NO MEAT).
You want to try to make this, go here for the recipe. Very easy!
And yep, now I can eat this like real Korean. Hahaha. *not really. I still dont like the taste of kimchi.
So, that is all for today.
I will introduce to you more of the Korean food in another time especially when I am hungry. kkk
For you readers, who will try to make one of this dishes good luck to you and I hope you all like them.
Have a good weekend.
Salam. :)
